Sassicaia 2007
500 per case 6 in bond

The new release of Sassicaia from the 2007 vintage is a stunning achievement and displays all the finesse and elegance which one has come to expect from this renowned estate. An exceptional terroir in Bolgheri, composed of a myriad of different soil types, and a meticulous approach in the vineyard and cellar, create wines with incredible distinction, elegance and individuality. According to James Suckling, Wine Spectator’s Italian expert, Sassicaia “is never overdone or exaggerated. The wines always shows subtlety and reserve.” 2007 is no exception but it is also a very special vintage and will be regarded as one of the finest wines ever made at the estate.
When we tasted the wine for the first time in the autumn last year, we were deeply impressed by its magnificent complexity, finesse and concentration. Both Sebastiano Rosa and Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta, were clearly very proud, Sebastiano describing it emphatically as “one of the best vintages”. This is quite some statement following, as it does, the highly acclaimed 2006 vintage.

Guidalberto 2008
£125 per case 6 in bond
Guidalberto, the second wine of Sassicaia, continues to grow in stature and quality from year to year. A significant amount of declassified Cabernet Sauvignon from Sassicaia is used in the blend and the Merlot, which gives softness and accessablity, is also grown on the estate. The 2008 vintage has produced richly flavoured wines with great structure and Guidalberto shows real concentration and depth. The colour is a deep, vibrant purple and the aromas are full and ripe with intense, dark cherry and plum fruits and notes of spice. Wonderfully structured and balanced on the palate with flavours of wild berries and herbs. Maturation in oak barrels for twelve months gives a spicy complexity on the finish. Although this wine is very approachable at the moment, it will certainly improve over the next five years developing in complexity.
Le Difese 2008
£66 per case 6 in bond

Le Difese was launched for the first time in the UK last year and proved an immediate success, so much so that we were unable to meet demand. We have asked for a few more cases this year but expect interest to be strong as the quality of the wine is truly impressive while the price remains very affordable. The 2008 Le Difese is particularly rich and appealing, combining the Mediterranean characters of Sangiovese with the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, dark cherries and baked fruits are followed by sweet cherry and prune flavours, intermingled with spices and herbs. A period of twelve months in oak barrels gives complexity and length to this very approachable wine which is delicious to drink now.
