A new addition to the armit fold, Gusbourne Estate is the brainchild of retired orthopaedic surgeon Andrew Weeber. The planting of 20 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier began in 2003 and with the 2006 vintage we saw the magnificent fruits of their labour materialise, albeit in tiny quantities. If the quality of this first vintage is anything to go by, then we can certainly be assured that the wines will go from strength to strength. Gusbourne Estate sits on the low slopes of the ancient Kentish escarpment at Appledore and the entire Estate consists exclusively of south facing slopes, ensuring that for most of the summer months, the vines bask in a relatively warm and dry local microclimate. Strictly limited yields, hand-picking, gentle pressing and at least 22 months of lees ageing are but a few of their rigorous practices that reflect the total pursuit of perfection at Gusbourne. Ultimately a family business, they are totally committed to the local community at all levels. They already have numerous awards to their name and are being hailed by many as being home to the most exciting new English sparkling wines and deservedly so!
